China Eastern is another Asian Skyteam partner that opens premium rewards on a regular basis. Based in Shanghai, US flights are from LAX, SFO, JFK as well as Honolulu. However in 2016 China Eastern will be adding at least 2 more departure cities in North America, Toronto and Chicago. The only negative is they charge a YG $180 fee on reward tickets (as well as purchased tickets). But a saver business class ticket is 70,000 points and a saver ticket on ANA to Shanghai connecting through Tokyo is 80,000 United points. So 10,000 points more versus $179, or 1.79 cents a mile. From that perspective it's very reasonable.
China Eastern currently flies Airbus 330 and Boeing 777 to the US. They have 13 Boeing 777 aircraft ordered and began taking delivery of them in 2015. As of this writing 4 have not been delivered but are assigned production numbers. The A330 is flown to SFO but a check of the future schedule shows a 777 on the route. No doubt China Eastern has its target on North American growth.
China Eastern Premium Class
China Eastern has upgraded its premium class serivce with the delivery of their Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The beautiful first class cabin seats six with a unique design. Rows one and two have single seat suites hugging the window. In the middle are two suites that can be converted to a double bed, similar to the A380 suites on Singapore. So the middle can be either two single suites or a double suite. The problem is you can't book first class on Delta with Skymiles, as they offer business class only. You'd have to look at one of the other Skyteam partners like Korean Air or use SPG miles. Here's a link to a review.
China Eastern's new business class features Zodiac Cirrus seats installed in the typical 1x2x1 reverse herringbone arrangement preferred by premium travelers. The warm natural taupe colors present an inviting cabin. Their English website doesn't provide much information on the premium class service, in fact the 777 seat map isn't even loaded. However it sure looks comfortable!
